Boulder Colorado Stake Cares for Colorado

BOULDER COUNTY (28 July 2007) — Sunshine finally won out over rain and snow so volunteers could complete their 2007 Colorado Cares Day project over two months ahead of the actual day of July 28. Nearly one hundred members of the Boulder Colorado Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints painted housing structures on Sat., May 12, for the Boulder County Housing Authority in Louisville and Lafayette from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Regular folks turned painters took up scrapers and brushes, put down drop cloths and climbed ladders. They painted trim and balconies on two-story affordable housing units at Louisville’s Regal Square. They painted one-story housing structures for seniors and those with handicaps at Lafayette Villa West. Efforts beautified and helped maintain the properties as part of the Colorado Cares initiative encouraging service to honor Colorado’s statehood on Aug. 1, 1876.

The project was first registered for the 2006 Colorado Cares Day and slated for Aug. 5. Then, it rained every available weekend through September before the project was postponed to 2007. Luck didn’t change immediately in 2007 either as the project needed rescheduling twice. Continue reading
